What 'Sanctuary' Really Means

(and How I Reclaimed Mine)

A sacred reflection on self-reclamation, motherhood, and coming home to yourself.

There was a time I didn’t know what sanctuary felt like.

Not in the physical sense — I had a house. But energetically, emotionally,
spiritually… I wasn’t safe.

I’d stayed in my marriage long after it had become toxic —
not out of weakness, but out of being desensitised and as a habitual ‘helper’.
The disconnection, the suppression, the slow destruction of who I was… it crept in
so quietly I didn’t notice until he left.

And only then did I feel the difference.

It started subtly.
One day I caught myself calling my bedroom “my sanctuary.”
Just a quiet thought. But a powerful one.

I had changed the linen. Lit a candle. Rearranged the furniture.
And for the first time in a long time… I felt truly safe.

Safe to be me.
Safe to feel what I needed.
Safe to exhale.

That one room — a space I could control — became my first act of empowering self-care on my path to rediscovering who I was.
Not the kind you see in a glossy magazine, but the kind where your nervous system starts to settle and your soul whispers, “Here you are.”

Over time, my sanctuary expanded.
My entire home began to reflect my energy — not someone else’s expectations or control.

And I realised something sacred:

Our homes mirror our healing.

As I let go of the emotional baggage, the physical clutter became easier to release.
When I healed an old wound, a drawer that had been hard to clear suddenly opened with ease.
When I started honouring myself again, my space became a hug.
And when I reclaimed my power… I became fiercely protective of who I allowed into it.

Creating a sanctuary isn’t about perfection.
It’s about safety.
It’s about truth.
And it’s about choosing a home that doesn’t judge your mess, your mistakes, your hard days as a parent.

I
t holds you. Gently. Until you’re ready.

When clutter builds up now, I don’t panic.
I pause. I ask:

🌿What part of me needs care right now?
🌿What’s my space trying to show me?

That’s the magic of Holistic Feng Shui — it’s not just about furniture placement.

It’s a way of living that invites alignment between your inner and outer world.
And when the energy of your home flows… so do you.

You don’t have to fix everything at once.
But you do deserve to feel safe, seen, and supported — in your space and in your Self.

💫 Your sanctuary is waiting. Let it begin with one intentional step.

If you are ready to harmonise your sanctuary and soul for more ease and empowerment, I would be honoured to support you!  I have a service or support group for you wherever you are at!
