When Pushing Through Stops Working:

Why Resistance Is a Sign to Rest, Not to Try Harder

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, how tightly you cling to your to-do list, or how much you will something to happen… it just won’t come together.

The words won’t flow.
The clarity won’t land.
Everything feels clunky, frustrating, or pointless — like you’re wasting precious time.

But this doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It simply means you’re depleted. And that is a powerful signal worth listening to.

Resistance Isn’t Failure — It’s Feedback

When you hit that wall, it’s not because you’re lazy or unmotivated — it’s your nervous system crying out for a break.

In today’s world, we’re taught to push through.
We glorify busyness. We measure our worth by productivity.
But here’s the truth: Busyness, without balance, will eventually burn you out.

When you’re stuck in go-go-go mode for too long:

  • You disconnect from your creativity

  • You lose access to your intuition

  • You can’t tap into your prefrontal cortex (PFC) — the rational part of your brain responsible for clarity, innovation, and emotional regulation

In other words? You lose your flow.
And no amount of pushing will bring it back.

Rest Is Not Lazy — It’s Leadership

One of the most transformative mindset shifts I’ve ever made was challenging the belief that rest is selfish or indulgent.

Especially as mothers, we’re conditioned to give until we collapse. But the truth is, rest, play, and stillness are essential ingredients for sustainability and success.

This belief became the foundation of my Yinning the Yang philosophy — the conscious shift away from the glorified Yang energy of striving and doing… and back toward the Yin qualities of stillness, pleasure, softness, and attuned self-care.

When we lead with nourishment, not just effort, everything changes.

Your Body Knows Before Your Mind Does

These days, I’ve trained myself to look for the signs earlier.
Because resistance always shows up before the crash.

My personal signs of burnout and misalignment:

  • Brain fog

  • Snapping at small things

  • Struggling to find words that normally come easily

  • Clumsiness, like dropping or spilling things

  • A heavy feeling of dread or frustration when sitting down to work

When I catch these signals, I no longer push harder. I pause.
I breathe. I check in.
And I ask: What part of me is calling for care right now?

Even just a few conscious breaths can re-engage the PFC — and with it, your calm, clarity, and creativity.

A Loving Reminder for You

Check in with yourself right now:

  • Are you in resistance?

  • Have you been pushing through instead of pausing?

  • What does burnout or misalignment look like for you?

  • What’s one way you can Yin your Yang today — even for five minutes?

You don’t have to earn your rest.
You don’t have to prove your worth through exhaustion.

You are worthy of self-care, simply because you exist.
And when you honour your needs, you’ll find that your work becomes clearer, lighter, and more impactful — without the burnout.

Watch how honouring yourself with self-care
can actually elevate you to the life of your dreams.
